Cocker Spaniel Pup
It’s not the best idea to buy a purebred Cocker Spaniel pup from a pet store or puppy mill. The best dogs come from experienced and responsible breeders. All reputable breeders in the area register their puppies with any of the breed clubs. To find devoted breeders, contact the Cocker Spaniel Club or any regional breed club for references. When you find a breeder you may not buy a puppy at once, as many responsible breeders have long waiting lists for their puppies before they are born.
To choose a suitable Cocker Spaniel pup you have to visit the kennel and see all puppies that are available for sale. If the breeder doesn’t invite you into the kennel, try to find another breeder. When visiting the kennel, look for the living conditions the dogs are kept in. The mother of the puppies should also be available. In some kennels, you can also see the sire. All puppies should be happy, communicative, and confident with no sights of timidity or aggression. Their coats should be shiny and the eyes should be clean.
Prior to buying a Cocker Spaniel pup, ask the breeder about the general health of the breed, typical disorders of the parents and other relatives. Ask about vaccination made to puppies and about the food they are fed. Normally, all purebred dogs are sold with a pedigree, health certificate, and registration papers. Pet quality puppies are spayed or neutered prior to selling them.
Most breeders allow buyers to choose a puppy, but they may also help in finding the most suited pup, because they know all their puppies well. A perspective buyer has to explain what kind of a dog is required to find a perfect match. All devoted breeders care for the future life of their dogs and try to find the best possible family for every puppy. They usually ask a perspective owner many questions about the lifestyle of the family and dog ownership experience. If the breeder thinks that the living conditions of the family are not suited for this breed, he/she will refuse selling a Cocker Spaniel pup.
