In the 1960’s the smaller type was extremely popular in England and gained the popularity as a show dog. An active and compact dog shows itself as very energetic and very fast runner. The dog moves easily on the dense cover and does the retrieve game.

There were two different types of the dogs that differ by weight after the WW I in the USA; the smaller type was more favored. This type was more elegant. Later these two types compete and were shown together until 1936 when the English type received a status of variety.
